The 1st Ever Annual ACF Blitz National Tournament was played on Monday, July 25th before the GAYP Nationals at Rodeway Inn, Medina, Ohio. Referee was Kim Willis.
The Blitz National was played as a round-robin tournament with a five-minute time limit control per game. Congratulations go to Ron King, who took first place ahead of John Webster. Alex Holmes was the highest finishing youth and won an additional $20 from Dream Young fund. Total prize fund was $520.

GAYP World Champion Ron “Suki” King won the Masters Division tournament. The Majors division was won by Joe Moore (also recent PA/District 3 champ). Neil Wenberg won the Minors. Alex Holmes is National Youth Champion.

This year’s National honoree (unannounced before tournament) was Dr. Richard Beckwith, (Willoughby, Ohio) who was presented a plaque. Total Prize fund was $3,040 with donations received by Joe LoConti ($500), R. Beckwith ($30, playing room, ACF Exec hotel rooms, trophies), Alan Millhone (scoresheets), Ted Williamson ($55), Missouri Checker Association ($50), Dream Young Fund ($40 to highest youth), JR Smith ($30), Don Deweber, Jay Hinnershitz, Michael Holmes, and Alex Holmes ($20 each). A Select Games package is being prepared.

All divisions voted to reduce the tournament format from 13 rounds to 10 rounds at pre-tournament meeting. Final format was 10 rounds of GAYP, Round-Robin, with additional playoff round. Kim Willis served as referee.
